2018 Winter Olympics
A student project where we had to come up with the new identity for the next Olympics. I was assigned the 2018 winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Our challenge was to come up with a logo where we took inspiration from the culture.
A combination of the nation’s white tiger and the four trigrams of the Korean flag. Inspired by SOOHORANG, a white tiger familiar in Korean folk tales as a symbol of trust, strength and protection. Stylized with a subtle texture of soft snow.
Admiration for the bold trigrams and the fluidity of the Yin and Yang led into further research of South Korea’s flag and it’s deeper meanings. Looking for inspiration for the logo started with the basic need for a symbol that was minimalistic but contained multiple meanings. Looking at references that were both simple in nature but had a prominent meaning.
